Managing Workforce Disruptions and Mental Well-Being in the Hospitality and Tourism Sector

Sreejita Vikas

The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the biggest employment creation industries in the world, making significant contributions to economic growth, culture, and social development. However, the industry is very susceptible to disruptions in its workforce due to economic recessions, pandemics, labor shortages, technological changes, seasonality, and turnover rates. Disruptions have an effect on the employees' psychological state, the organization's productivity, and the service provision. The current research paper analyzes the correlation between workforce disruption and mental health problems in the hospitality and tourism industry. Major sources of disruptions, their impact on employees' psychological state, and organizational approaches to fostering resilience and well-being are considered. The leadership role, technology, human resource management, and government policy effects on the creation of sustainable workplaces are discussed as well. The results show that organizations, focusing on employees' psychological well-being, flexible working practices, and supportive leadership, have higher chances to operate efficiently through disruption periods.
