A STUDY ON CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR AND THE EVOLVING STATIONERY CONSUMPTION PATTERNS AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS IN BIHAR

Dr. Kumar Ambarish Narayan

The stationery consumption patterns among college students in Bihar are undergoing significant transformations due to socio-economic shifts, digital advancements and evolving consumer preferences. This study explores the key determinants influencing students’ purchasing behaviour, including brand perception, affordability, the impact of digital tools and growing environmental consciousness. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research incorporates surveys from 500 students across Bihar and in-depth interviews to assess trends in traditional stationery usage, hybrid note-taking behaviour and the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives. Findings reveal that while affordability remains a primary concern, brand preferences vary based on economic background and location. Digitalisation is influencing stationery demand but has not entirely replaced traditional writing tools. Awareness of sustainable stationery remains low, though there is a willingness to adopt eco-friendly products if cost-effective options are available. The study provides valuable insights for manufacturers, retailers and policymakers, suggesting strategies to enhance affordability, promote sustainability and integrate digital and traditional stationery solutions to meet evolving student needs.
