Throughout history, women's empowerment has been a global concern. It has been emerged as a serious topic of discussion in last few decades. Prior to this, the position of women was not considered to be good in the country. One of the multifarious types of evidence of poor position of women in the country can be seen in the sex ratio of the country over the decades through census. Other factors include increasing domestic violence, under-representation of women in decision-making, discriminatory laws governing marriage, land, property, and inheritance has hindered women’s empowerment. Although, in present scenario government is actively participating in the promoting women empowerment through various initiatives such as ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’, ‘ Mahila Shakti Kendras’, ‘Ujjawala Yojana’ and many more programmes, yet there is a far way to go. This study aims to quantify women's sense of empowerment in metropolitan areas of Punjab with respect to important domains like health, well-being, economic opportunity, and educational attainment.
