EFFECTS OF SCREEN TIME ON CHILDREN’S DEVELOPMENT

Vidya Singh & Prof. (Dr.) Hemadri Kumar Sao

The rapid integration of digital technology into daily life has significantly increased screen time among children, raising concerns about its potential impact on their development. This research paper examines the multifaceted effects of prolonged screen exposure on children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Excessive screen time has been linked to physical health issues such as obesity and vision problems, as well as cognitive challenges, including reduced attention spans and impaired academic performance. Furthermore, it influences social behaviors, potentially diminishing interpersonal skills and increasing the risk of social isolation. Emotional consequences, such as heightened anxiety, mood disorders, and reduced emotional regulation, are also explored. By synthesizing current literature and empirical findings, this paper aims to highlight the importance of balanced screen use and provide actionable recommendations for parents, educators, and policymakers to mitigate the negative consequences while leveraging the benefits of digital media for children’s growth.
