THE IMPACT OF POPULATION GROWTH ON LAND USE PATTERNS AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH HARYANA

Alka Yadav and Dr. Tarun Kumar Yadav

This paper explores the dynamic relationship between increasing population density and its effects on land utilization, including agricultural land conversion, urban expansion, and infrastructure development. With the rising population, there has been an accelerated shift from rural, agrarian-based land uses to urban and industrial landscapes, driven by economic opportunities and migration trends. This transformation has led to increased pressure on natural resources, changes in agricultural productivity, and urban sprawl. Furthermore, the socio-economic development of South Haryana has been characterized by improved access to education, employment, and services, particularly in urban areas, albeit with widening disparities between rural and urban populations. The paper highlights challenges such as land degradation, reduced per capita land availability, and social inequities resulting from uneven development. It emphasizes the need for sustainable land management policies and balanced development strategies to address the adverse effects of population growth while fostering equitable socio-economic progress in South Haryana.
