ANALYSING CULTURAL COMMODITIZATION IN RELATION WITH TOURISM IN INDIA

Indian Tourism industry is expanding and has been multiplier in generating job opportunities, earnings and foreign exchange. It is one of the most important income generating source in addition to this the process of globalisation has increased the interconnectivity, economic "depth". With the growth of globalization and technological advancements, tourism industry has reached to a global level facilitating the movement of people and wealth internationally. The glorious past of India, its spirituality and the secrets of the mysterious land constituting the main themes of Indian culture which is being sold as the tourism products. Considering the same, the study focussed on analysing the commoditization of the culture. In the current study the researcher used semiotics as the methodology. Along with the commodification, homogenization and hetreogenization and authenticity of the culture is also discussed in this paper.
