JOURNEY OF RAJU’S SOUL FROM MATERILAISTIC BONDAGE TO SPIRITUAL FREEDOM: R.K. NARAYAN’S GUIDE

R.K. Narayan (1906-2001) does not need any introduction because the Sun of Indian Novels rises with his emergence as a novelist. He proved himself as a great legendary novelist and story writer of India as his name is taken with great respect and pride not only in India but in the foreign countries also. When we read his novels it appears that the psychological approach of the characters which he has revealed in his literary works are realistic and just like always praiseworthy and more precise than any other novelists of the world. His vivid imaginary with an interpretation of contemporary society is enough to win the heart of the readers. His novels are full of traditional and conventional values and socio-cultural aspects and it may be said that his novels offer the glimpses of the real India of that time with a powerful and exceeding setting in his imaginary ‘Malgudi’ town. He has presented the domestic themes in his novels like preference in love and marriage, father-son clashes due to generation gap, husband-wife battling relationship and the most striking his characters are highly ambitious towards their goals of life.
